Women of the ELCA
All women of St. Olaf Lutheran Church are members of WELCA. Our mission is to mobilize our members to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ.
Our mission is carried out in the following areas:
This area involves programming for general WELCA meetings held September-May, circle meetings September-May which includes a Bible Study and fellowship, attending conference, synodical, and churchwide conference meetings, guest days in area churches, and Women’s Day at Good Earth Village. In November we have a Thankoffering service in which women participate in all three Sunday Services.
The main events in this area involve our October Scandinavian Festival, the year-long gathering of quilts and kits for Lutheran World Relief delivered to a gathering area in Albert Lea in May, serving at the Fellowship Hall coffee hour the fourth Sunday of each month, and providing programs and treats for the residents in St. Mark’s Lutheran Home on the Tuesdays of two designated months of the year. In December financial gifts are given to programs within St. Olaf Church and to area and worldwide groups.
Our main outreach in this area is serving at funerals. Two co-chairs, along with two monthly co-chairs for Helping Hands, mobilize women to work at the funerals or to bring in a cake to serve—a true blessing for all people in their time of need.
