If you have wanted to participate in the music ministry of St. Olaf but just haven’t taken that leap, this is the time to do so!  Or, maybe you were active in a choir years ago and feel this is the time to become reconnected.  There is a place for you to share your gifts.  Music ministry at St. Olaf strives to not only engage worship and music leadership in our own congregation but also to prepare and send out future leaders to other congregations.

For children, there are several opportunities.  Our singing Children’s Choir is open to Grades 2-5 and sings twice per month, typically on the 2nd and 4th Sundays and at an afternoon Christmas Eve service.  Director Sonia Larson, private voice instructor and former faculty vocal instructor at Riverland Community College, plans music that not only provides a fun singing experience but also trains these young voices.   Saints (Grades 6-8) and Jubilation (grades 9-12) complete our youth singing choir program.  Director Coni Nelson teaches voice in her home and is a former public school music teacher with years of experience in the elementary and middle school grades.  Saints sing 1st and 3rd Sundays at 9:15, while Jubilation sings the 3rd Sunday of the month.

There are also ringing opportunities for youth here at St. Olaf.  Celebration Ringers (upper elementary through middle school) and Revelation Ringers (high school) play about every 6 weeks in worship.  Neal Erickson directs these groups.  Whether it’s the smallest or largest of bells, we have a great time learning to ring together.

The St. Olaf Church Choir (post-high school) sings nearly every Sunday during the school year, typically at the 10:45 service.   Directed by Neal Erickson, this group sings a broad repertoire of classical, gospel, and spirituals and is challenged with several newly published anthems every year.  A highlight of the year is the Good Friday service which features choir and orchestra mixed with  sermons.  We have a social element to our schedule, too, with a “choir coffee” once per month and a special Christmas buffet of bountiful treats.  The St. Olaf Church Choir truly loves to sing together and offer their support to the singing of the congregation.

Grace Notes is our adult bell choir, full of energy and ready to tackle a variety of repertoire.  Many of the works we play also incorporate melody chimes and percussion.  We play about once a month in worship at different services.  This group is also directed by Neal Erickson.
